व्यासेन कलियुगस्य स्थित्याः वर्णनं आसन्नं विप्रकृष्टं वा यदि कालं न विद्महे ।तस्माद् द्वापरसंविद्धं युगान्तं स्पृहयाम्यहम्

अरक्षितारो हर्तारो बलिभागस्य पार्थिवाः ।युगान्ते प्रभविष्यन्ति स्वरक्षणपरायणाः

व्यासजी बोले—राजन् ! कलियुगमें प्रजाओंकी रक्षा न करते हुए उनसे कर लेनेवाले राजा उत्पन्न होंगे, जो सदा अपने शरीरमात्रकी रक्षामें संलग्न रहेंगे

राजा, चोर और अग्रिके दण्डसे पीड़ित हुई प्रजा धीरे-धीरे नष्ट हो जायगी, खेती निष्फल होगी और नौजवानोंका स्वभाव बूढ़ोंके समान हो जायगा (अर्थात् वे उत्साह, बल और पुरुषार्थसे रहित हो जायेँगे), कलियुगमें _ प्राय: सभी लोग तृष्णाके कारण सुखसे वद्चित रहेंगे

अन्तिम युगमें क्षत्र शास्त्रोक्त ग्रहसंयोग आदिसे रहित होंगे, दिशाएँ पपरीत प्रतीत होंगी, उनमें संध्याकालके समान लाली गयी रहेगी और वहाँ निरन्तर दाह (जलन या तपन) ना रहेगा
