श्रीशिवमहापुराणम् ॥ षष्ठी कैलाससंहिता ६.१. प्रथमोऽध्यायः ।व्यासशौनकादिसंवादः ।अथ षष्ठी कैलाससंहिता प्रारभ्यते ॥ नमः शिवाय साम्बाय सगणाय ससूनवे ।प्रधानपुरुषेशाय सर्गस्थितत्यन्तहेतवे

काशी जानेकी इच्छा की

English

O dear, now.listen with pleasure. Out of affection for you I shall narrate the divine Sarhhita Kailasa ex¬ pounding Siva's tenets.

ऋषय ऊचुः ।श्रुतोमासंहिता रम्या नानाख्यानसमन्विता ।कैलाससंहितां ब्रूहि शिवतत्त्वविवर्धिनीम्

ṛṣaya ūcuḥ | śrutomāsaṃhitā ramyā nānākhyānasamanvitā | kailāsasaṃhitāṃ brūhi śivatattvavivardhinīm

हिन्दी अर्थ

विशुद्ध तत्त्वमें स्थित करूँगा

English

Vedas arise from the Pranava. The Prapava is lord Siva. Hence you are the permanent abode of lord Siva*s stay.

श्लोक 1.3

व्यास उवाच ।शृणुत प्रीतितो वत्साः कैलासाख्यां हि संहिताम् ।शिवतत्त्वपरां दिव्यां वक्ष्ये वः स्नेहतः पराम्

vyāsa uvāca | śṛṇuta prītito vatsāḥ kailāsākhyāṃ hi saṃhitām | śivatattvaparāṃ divyāṃ vakṣye vaḥ snehataḥ parām

हिन्दी अर्थ

एकाक्षर कहते हैं

Hope you are quite well. Please say. Has the leader of the sacrifices been worshipped well by you in this sacrifice?

श्लोक 1.4

हिमवच्छिखरे पूर्वं तपस्यन्तो महौजसः ।वाराणसीं गन्तुकामा मुनयः कृतसंविदः

himavacchikhare pūrvaṃ tapasyanto mahaujasaḥ | vārāṇasīṃ gantukāmā munayaḥ kṛtasaṃvidaḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

अपना विचार निवेदन करना चाहिए

English

Lord Siva, consort of Amba, has been adored by you by long sacrifices. This I see actually.

श्लोक 1.5

निर्गत्य तस्मात्सम्प्राप्य गिरेः काशीं समाहिताः ।स्नातव्यमेवेति तदा ददृशुर्मणिकर्णिकाम्

nirgatya tasmātsamprāpya gireḥ kāśīṃ samāhitāḥ | snātavyameveti tadā dadṛśurmaṇikarṇikām

हिन्दी अर्थ

लेपनकर स्नान करे

English

Siva bedecked the goddess with the full¬ blown kalpa tree" flowers brought by the dearest friends of the goddess the chief of whom was Sumalini. He made her sit on his lap. Looking at her face he sat there with his face beaming with delight.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.6

तत्र स्नात्वा सुसन्तर्प्य देवादीनथ जाह्नवीम् ।दृष्ट्वा स्नात्वा मुनीशास्ते विश्वेशं त्रिदशेश्वरम्

tatra snātvā susantarpya devādīnatha jāhnavīm | dṛṣṭvā snātvā munīśāste viśveśaṃ tridaśeśvaram

हिन्दी अर्थ

आचमनकर तीन प्रणायाम करे

English

Then ensued the delightful discourse conformable to the Vedas between Parvatl and lord Siva. It was meant for the welfare of the world.

श्लोक 1.7

नमस्कृत्याथ सम्पूज्य भक्त्या परमयान्विताः ।शतरुद्रादिभिः स्तुत्वा स्तुतिभिर्वेदपारगाः

namaskṛtyātha sampūjya bhaktyā paramayānvitāḥ | śatarudrādibhiḥ stutvā stutibhirvedapāragāḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

करे और वहाँ क्रमसे मण्डलकी रचना करे

English

O ascetics, then the mother of the universe seated on the lap of her husband looked at the lord's face and said.

श्लोक 1.8

आत्मानं मेनिरे सर्वे कृतार्था वयमित्युत ।शिवप्रीत्या सुपूर्णार्थाः शिवभक्तिरताः सदा

ātmānaṃ menire sarve kṛtārthā vayamityuta | śivaprītyā supūrṇārthāḥ śivabhaktiratāḥ sadā

हिन्दी अर्थ

इति श्रीशिवमहापुराणे वष्ठ्यां केलाससंहितायां संन्यासाचारवर्णन॑ नाम चतुर्थो3 ध्याय:

O lord, you have discoursed on the Mantras in¬ cluding the, Pranava. There at the outset I wish to know the meaning of the Pranava.

तस्मिन्नवसरे सूतं पञ्चक्रोशदिदृक्षया ।गत्वा समागतं वीक्ष्य मुदा ते तं ववन्दिरे

tasminnavasare sūtaṃ pañcakrośadidṛkṣayā | gatvā samāgataṃ vīkṣya mudā te taṃ vavandire

नामक चौथा अध्याय पूर्ण हुआ

How many deities are mentioned? What is the concept of the Vedas thereto? What types of rites are men¬ tioned? What is their cause and what is their result?

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.10

सोऽपि विश्वेश्वरं साक्षाद्देवदेवमुमापतिम् ।नमस्कृत्याथ तैः साकं मुक्तिमण्डपमाविशत्

so'pi viśveśvaraṃ sākṣāddevadevamumāpatim | namaskṛtyātha taiḥ sākaṃ muktimaṇḍapamāviśat

हिन्दी अर्थ

प्रसन्‍नतापूर्वक उन्हें प्रणाम किया

English

Formerly the sages of great power and splendour performing penances on the summit of Himavat* desired to go to Varanasi** and decided accordingly.

श्लोक 1.11

तत्रासीनं महात्मानं सूतं पौराणिकोत्तमम् ।अर्घ्यादिभिस्तदा सर्वे मुनयः समुपाचरन्

tatrāsīnaṃ mahātmānaṃ sūtaṃ paurāṇikottamam | arghyādibhistadā sarve munayaḥ samupācaran

हिन्दी अर्थ

महात्मा सूतजीका पूजन किया

English

They started from the mountain and reached Kai. They decided to bathe there and saw Manikarnika.**

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.12

ततः सूतः प्रसन्नात्मा मुनीनालोक्य सुव्रतान् ।पप्रच्छ कुशलं तेऽपि प्रोचुः कुशलमात्मनः

tataḥ sūtaḥ prasannātmā munīnālokya suvratān | papraccha kuśalaṃ te'pi procuḥ kuśalamātmanaḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

प्रसन्‍नताके साथ उसे सुनिये

English

The lordly sages bathed there and performed the Tarpana rites to the gods and others and to Gahga. They visited ViveiSa the lord of the gods, bowed and worshipked him with devotion The sages, the masters of the Vedas eulogised him with Satarudra and other mantras and thought "O, we are blessed. We are content." Due to Siva's pleasure they realised everything. They remained ever engaged in devotion to Siva.

श्लोक 1.13

ते तु संहृष्टहृदयं ज्ञात्वा तं वै मुनीश्वराः ।प्रणवार्थावगत्यर्थमूचुः प्रास्ताविकं वचः

te tu saṃhṛṣṭahṛdayaṃ jñātvā taṃ vai munīśvarāḥ | praṇavārthāvagatyarthamūcuḥ prāstāvikaṃ vacaḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

जञति श्रीजिवमहाएराणे पष्उ्यां कैलायसंहितायां व्यासशौनकादिसंवादो नाय प्रथमो5 ध्याय:

English

This celebrated mountain extends from the Eastern to the Western Sea. is formed after the shape oi a bow-string and forms the northern bounds of Bharatavarsa.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.14

मुनय ऊचुः ।व्यासशिष्य महाभाग सूत पौराणिकोत्तम ।धन्यस्त्वं शिवभक्तो हि सर्वविज्ञानसागरः

munaya ūcuḥ | vyāsaśiṣya mahābhāga sūta paurāṇikottama | dhanyastvaṃ śivabhakto hi sarvavijñānasāgaraḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

नामक पहला अध्याय पूर्ण हुआ

English

In the meantime Suta who had left his hermitage to visit Paflcakrola*'** reached there. On seeing him the joyous sages paid obeisance to him.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.15

भवन्तमेव भगवान्व्यासः सर्वजगद्गुरुः ।अभिषिच्य पुराणानां गुरुत्वे समयोजयत्

bhavantameva bhagavānvyāsaḥ sarvajagadguruḥ | abhiṣicya purāṇānāṃ gurutve samayojayat

हिन्दी अर्थ

यथार्थ तत्त्वका निश्चय है

English

After bowing to Viivevara, the lord of gods, the consort of Uma, Suta entered the Muktimacjapa along with diem.

श्लोक 1.16

तस्मात्पौराणिकी विद्या भवतो हृदि संस्थिता ।पुराणानि च सर्वाणि वेदार्थं प्रवदन्ति हि

tasmātpaurāṇikī vidyā bhavato hṛdi saṃsthitā | purāṇāni ca sarvāṇi vedārthaṃ pravadanti hi

हिन्दी अर्थ

अद्भुत इतिहास कह रहा हूँ

English

When Suta the great soul, the excellent of the Pauraikas took his seat, the sages paid respects to him with Arghya and other ingredients of worship.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.17

वेदाः प्रणवसम्भूताः प्रणवार्थो महेश्वरः ।अतो महेश्वरस्थानं त्वयि धिष्ण्यं प्रतिष्ठितम्

vedāḥ praṇavasambhūtāḥ praṇavārtho maheśvaraḥ | ato maheśvarasthānaṃ tvayi dhiṣṇyaṃ pratiṣṭhitam

हिन्दी अर्थ

शिवके निमित्त तप करने लगीं

English

The delighted Suta saw the sages of auspicious rites and enquired after their health and welfare. They replied suitably.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.18

त्वन्मुखाब्जपरिस्यन्दन्मकरन्देमनोहरम् ।प्रणवार्थामृतं पीत्वा भविष्यामो गतज्वराः

tvanmukhābjaparisyandanmakarandemanoharam | praṇavārthāmṛtaṃ pītvā bhaviṣyāmo gatajvarāḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

शिवजीसे कहने लगीं--

English

O blessed disciple of Vyasa, O Suta the best among the Pauraikas, you are a great devotee of Siva, the ocean of perfect knowledge.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.19

विशेषतो गुरुस्त्वं हि नान्योऽस्माकं महामते ।परं भावं महेशस्य परया कृपया वद

viśeṣato gurustvaṃ hi nānyo'smākaṃ mahāmate | paraṃ bhāvaṃ maheśasya parayā kṛpayā vada

हिन्दी अर्थ

की, तब वे प्रसन्‍नमनसे देवीसे कहने लगे--

English

Lord Vyasa, the preceptor of the universe has crowned you as the chief of the Pauranikas and made you the propounder of the Puraias.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.20

इति तेषां वचः श्रुत्वा सूतो व्यासप्रियः सुधीः ।गणेशं षण्मुखं साक्षान्महेशानं महेश्वरीम्

iti teṣāṃ vacaḥ śrutvā sūto vyāsapriyaḥ sudhīḥ | gaṇeśaṃ ṣaṇmukhaṃ sākṣānmaheśānaṃ maheśvarīm

हिन्दी अर्थ

साथ देवोद्यानमें चले गये

English

We shall be free from illness after we have drunk the nectar of Pranava which is as sweet and pleasing as the honey oozing out of your lotus-mouth.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.21

शिलादतनयं देवं नन्दीशं सुयशापतिम् ।सनत्कुमारं व्यासं च प्रणिपत्येदमब्रवीत्

śilādatanayaṃ devaṃ nandīśaṃ suyaśāpatim | sanatkumāraṃ vyāsaṃ ca praṇipatyedamabravīt

हिन्दी अर्थ

मुखको देखकर यह कहा--

English

O intelligent one, you alone are our preceptor, none else. Out of compassion please narrate the nature of lord Siva.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.22

सूत उवाच ।साधु साधु महाभागा मुनयः क्षीणकल्मषाः ।मतिर्दृढतरा जाता दुर्लभा सापि दुष्कृताम्

sūta uvāca | sādhu sādhu mahābhāgā munayaḥ kṣīṇakalmaṣāḥ | matirdṛḍhatarā jātā durlabhā sāpi duṣkṛtām

हिन्दी अर्थ

प्रणबके निश्चित अर्थकों सुनना चाहती हूँ

English

On hearing their words, the intelligent Suta, the beloved disciple of Vyasa, made obeisance to Gaela,

श्लोक 1.23

पाराशर्येण गुरुणा नैमिषारण्यवासिनाम् ।मुनीनामुपदिष्टं यद् वक्ष्ये तन्मुनिपुङ्गवाः

pārāśaryeṇa guruṇā naimiṣāraṇyavāsinām | munīnāmupadiṣṭaṃ yad vakṣye tanmunipuṅgavāḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

सम्प्रशस्थ महेशानीं वक्तुं समुपचक्रमे ॥ ३० लगे--

English

The region upto the distance of five Kronas round Varinasi is called Paficakroii. It is sacred to Siva.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.24

यस्य श्रवणमात्रेण शिवभक्तिर्भवेन्नृणाम् ।सावधाना भवन्तोऽद्य शृण्वन्तु परया मुदा

yasya śravaṇamātreṇa śivabhaktirbhavennṛṇām | sāvadhānā bhavanto'dya śṛṇvantu parayā mudā

हिन्दी अर्थ

ड्र्ति “2226० हा केलाससंहितायां देवीदेवसंवादे देवीकृतप्रश्नवर्णन॑ नाम द्वितीयोउ ध्याय:

English

Well done, well done, O blessed sages, your sins have been quelled. Your minds are steadied. It is rare in persons of evil deeds.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.25

स्वारोचिषेऽन्तरे पूर्वं तपस्यन्तो दृढव्रताः ।ऋषयो नैमिषारण्ये सर्वसिद्धनिषेविते

svārociṣe'ntare pūrvaṃ tapasyanto dṛḍhavratāḥ | ṛṣayo naimiṣāraṇye sarvasiddhaniṣevite

हिन्दी अर्थ

प्रश्नवर्णन नामक दूसरा अध्याय पूर्ण हुआ

English

O leading sages, I shall narrate to you what was mentioned by my preceptor Vyasa to the sages in the Naimia forest. On hearing this alone men are blessed with devotion to Siva. You shall listen with attention and joy.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.26

दीर्घसत्रं वितन्वन्तो रुद्रमध्वरनायकम् ।प्रीणयन्तः परं भावमैश्वर्यं ज्ञातुमिच्छवः

dīrghasatraṃ vitanvanto rudramadhvaranāyakam | prīṇayantaḥ paraṃ bhāvamaiśvaryaṃ jñātumicchavaḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

सुननेमात्रसे जीव साक्षात् शिव हो जाता है

English

Formerly in the Svarocisa Manvantara, sages of steady rites performed penance in the Naimisa'® forest where all the Siddhas live. They conducted a sacrifice of long duration, propitiated Rudra the leader of sacrifices. They desired to know the supreme nature of the lord. They waited for Vyasa. They were engaged in devotion to Siva and wore Rudrak after smearing their bodies with the ashes.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.27

निवसन्ति स्म ते सर्वे व्यासदर्शनकाङ्क्षिणः ।शिवभक्तिरता नित्यं भस्मरुद्राक्षधारिणः

nivasanti sma te sarve vyāsadarśanakāṅkṣiṇaḥ | śivabhaktiratā nityaṃ bhasmarudrākṣadhāriṇaḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

नामक वह मन्त्र सभी विद्याओंका बीज है

English

Observing their eagerness, lord Badarayana, the soul of all, the fruit of the penance of Paraiara appeared before them.

श्लोक 1.28

तेषां भावं समालोक्य भगवान्बादरायणः ।प्रादुर्बभूव सर्वात्मा पराशरतपःफलम्

teṣāṃ bhāvaṃ samālokya bhagavānbādarāyaṇaḥ | prādurbabhūva sarvātmā parāśaratapaḥphalam

हिन्दी अर्थ

एकाक्षर मन्त्रमें निवास करता हूँ

English

On seeing him the sages were delighted with beaming eyes and faces. They stood up and welcomed him with reverence.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.29

तं दृष्ट्वा मुनयः सर्वे प्रहृष्टवदनेक्षणाः ।अभ्युत्थानादिभिः सर्वैरुपचारैरुपाचरन्

taṃ dṛṣṭvā munayaḥ sarve prahṛṣṭavadanekṣaṇāḥ | abhyutthānādibhiḥ sarvairupacārairupācaran

हिन्दी अर्थ

संसारका निर्माण करते हैं

English

With due hospitality they offered him a golden seat. Seated cosily on the golden seat the sage Vyasa spoke majestically.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.30

सत्कृत्य प्रददुस्तस्मै सौवर्णं विष्टरं शुभम् ।सुखोपविष्टः स तदा तस्मिन्सौवर्णविष्टरे ।प्राह गम्भीरया वाचा पाराशर्यो महामुनिः

satkṛtya pradadustasmai sauvarṇaṃ viṣṭaraṃ śubham | sukhopaviṣṭaḥ sa tadā tasminsauvarṇaviṣṭare | prāha gambhīrayā vācā pārāśaryo mahāmuniḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

परमेश्वरके रूपमें समझे

English

Why lord Siva accompanied by Amba, the lord who releases from worldly bondage has been worshipp>ed with due devotion by you all in this sacrifice.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.31

व्यास उवाच ।कुशलं किं नु युष्माकं प्रब्रूतास्मिन्महामखे ।अर्चितः किं नु युष्माभिः सम्यगध्वरनायकः

vyāsa uvāca | kuśalaṃ kiṃ nu yuṣmākaṃ prabrūtāsminmahāmakhe | arcitaḥ kiṃ nu yuṣmābhiḥ samyagadhvaranāyakaḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

मन्हत्रोंमें श्रेष्ठ इसी प्रणणका उपदेश करता हूँ

किमर्थमत्र युष्माभिरध्वरे परमेश्वरः ।स्वर्चितो भक्तिभावेन साम्बः संसारमोचकः

kimarthamatra yuṣmābhiradhvare parameśvaraḥ | svarcito bhaktibhāvena sāmbaḥ saṃsāramocakaḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

प्राप्त हो जाती है

English

Thus urged by the sage Vyiisa of great brilliance the great sages of the Naimisa forest bowed to him, the noble soul whose mind was delighted by his devotion to Siva.

युष्मत्प्रवृत्तिर्मे भाति शुश्रूषापूर्वमेव हि ।परभावे महेशस्य मुक्तिहेतोः शिवस्य च

yuṣmatpravṛttirme bhāti śuśrūṣāpūrvameva hi | parabhāve maheśasya muktihetoḥ śivasya ca

करनेवालोंको सदा मुक्ति प्रदान करता है

श्लोक 1.34

एवमुक्ता मुनीन्द्रेण व्यासेनामिततेजसा ।मुनयो नैमिषारण्यवासिनः परमौजसः

evamuktā munīndreṇa vyāsenāmitatejasā | munayo naimiṣāraṇyavāsinaḥ paramaujasaḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

संयोगसे 'ओम्' बनता है

English

Our minds have been yearning for the sight of your lotus feet even as the bees yearn for the touch of lotus flowers. We arc now satisfied by the vision of your loti:< feet.

श्लोक 1.35

प्रणिपत्य महात्मानं पाराशशर्यं महामुनिम् ।शिवानुरागसंहृष्टमानसं च तमब्रुवन्

praṇipatya mahātmānaṃ pārāśaśaryaṃ mahāmunim | śivānurāgasaṃhṛṣṭamānasaṃ ca tamabruvan

हिन्दी अर्थ

स्थित मकार अग्निकी भाँति तेजोमय है

Inacrc'jsibir indeed the sight of your lotus feet to the sinners. Since now we have obtained it we are really fortunate.

श्लोक 1.36

मुनय ऊचुः ।भगवन्मुनिशार्दूल साक्षान्नारायणांशज ।कृपानिधे महाप्राज्ञ सर्वविद्याधिप प्रभो

munaya ūcuḥ | bhagavanmuniśārdūla sākṣānnārāyaṇāṃśaja | kṛpānidhe mahāprājña sarvavidyādhipa prabho

हिन्दी अर्थ

उसे तो ज्ञानीलोग ही जान सकते हैं

त्वं हि सर्वजगद्भर्तुर्महादेवस्य वेधसः ।साम्बस्य सगणस्यास्य प्रसादानां निधिः स्वयम्

tvaṃ hi sarvajagadbharturmahādevasya vedhasaḥ | sāmbasya sagaṇasyāsya prasādānāṃ nidhiḥ svayam

हिन्दी अर्थ

हैं, इस प्रकारकी भावना सर्वत्र करनी चाहिए

त्वत्पादाब्जरसास्वादमधुपायितमानसाः ।कृतार्था वयमद्यैव भवत्पादाब्जदर्शनात्

tvatpādābjarasāsvādamadhupāyitamānasāḥ | kṛtārthā vayamadyaiva bhavatpādābjadarśanāt

पर्यन्त पाँच ब्रह्म स्थित हैं, वे मेरी ही मूर्तियाँ हैं

त्वदीयचरणाम्भोजदर्शनं खलु पापिनाम् ।दुर्लभं लब्धमस्माभिस्तस्मात्सुकृतिनो वयम्

tvadīyacaraṇāmbhojadarśanaṃ khalu pāpinām | durlabhaṃ labdhamasmābhistasmātsukṛtino vayam

हिन्दी अर्थ

प्रणवका अधिकारी है

English

O blessed brahmins, the question has been well put by you. The knowledge of Siva's principle that illumi¬ nates the meaning of Pranava 's incomprehensible. It can be obtained surely by those with whom the trident-bearing lord is pleased and not by others who are undoubtedly devoid of Siva's devotion. This is true.

अध्याय 10

श्लोक 1.40

अस्मिन्देशे महाभाग नैमिषारण्यसंज्ञके ।दीर्घसत्रान्विताः सर्वे प्रणवार्थप्रकाशकाः

O devotees, I shall narrate to you an ancient story containing a wonderful dialogue between Uma and Siva.

श्रोतव्यः परमेशान इति कृत्वा विनिश्चिताः ।परस्परं चिन्तयन्तः परं भावं महेशितुः

Formerly Sati, daughter of Daksa, the mother of the universe abandoned her body in the sacrifice of her father in view of the insult offered to Siva. As a result of the penance the goddess became the daughter of the Himavat. On the advice of Narada she performed a penance for Siva on that mountain. When lord Siva married her with Svayaihvara rites Parvati attained happiness.

O omniscient lord who hath ordained to himself the five-fold duties, O lord easily accessible through devotion, O lord of nectarine body, I was the daughter of Dak in my former birth. I abandoned my body because of the insult offered to you. I have now become the daughter of the mountain Himavat.

A brahmin with the following characteristics shall approach the preceptor with the requisite qualifications. He shall be regularly engaged in holy rites, be calm, per¬ form penance, shall have self-control, be a brahmin well- versed in the Vedas and endowed with cleanliness and good conduct, unattached to the pleasures of this world and of the next and of the worlds of the gods. He shall per¬ form the holy rites of iSiva. The preceptor shall be one who has understood the tenets and the meanings of sacred texts; who has mastered Vedanta; who is an ascetic and the most excellent of intelligent men. After approaching him the intelligent brahmin shall prostrate before him and propi¬ tiate him by reverential deeds. That diseiple is the most excellent who possesses good behaviour and the qualities of peaceful calmness. The disciple shall realise that preceptor is Siva and Siva is the preceptor. *rhen he shall reveal his thought.
