tejo ha vā udānastasmādupaśāntatejāḥ | punarbhavamindriyairmanasi sampadyamānaiḥ
At death, udāna (heat/fire) departs and the body grows cold. The senses dissolve into the mind, the mind into prāṇa, prāṇa into the Self — the reverse of birth.
Meaning
Udāna is the radiant heat (tejas). Hence when this heat is extinguished, one obtains rebirth, with senses absorbed into the mind.
Direct literal rendering preserving Sanskrit philosophical terminology.
Vyakhya

A modern parallel offered for reflection. It is not part of the scripture, and it has not been checked against the original sources it may allude to.
