Sleep is described as a daily sacrifice. Breath (in and out) is the offering. Mind is the yajamāna (sacrificer). Samāna balances; Udāna lifts. Each night, by sleep itself, the seeker is delivered to Brahman.
Meaning
Because Samāna leads the offerings of in-breath and out-breath equally, it is the priest of equalizing. The mind is the sacrificer. Udāna is the desired fruit. Day after day Udāna leads this sacrificer to Brahman.
