nāyamātmā balahīnena labhyo na ca pramādāttapaso vāpyaliṅgāt | etairupāyairyatate yastu vidvāṃstasyaiṣa ātmā viśate brahmadhāma
Balance to the previous verse. Yes, grace — but strength, attention, and properly-oriented tapas are essential. The seeker must do everything possible; then grace meets the effort.
Meaning
This Self is not attained by the weak, nor by carelessness, nor by tapas without right marks (genuine purpose). But the wise one who strives by the right means — into him this Self enters as the Brahman-abode.
Direct literal rendering preserving Sanskrit philosophical terminology.
Vyakhya
Science & Modern Application

Skill-acquisition Research: 'Deliberate Practice' —
A modern parallel offered for reflection. It is not part of the scripture, and it has not been checked against the original sources it may allude to.
