yeyaṃ prete vicikitsā manuṣye'stītyeke nāyamastīti caike | etadvidyāmanuśiṣṭastvayāhaṃ varāṇāmeṣa varastṛtīyaḥ
The eternal question, asked by a child to Death himself: does a person exist after death? Some say yes, some no. Naciketas asks not for theory but for direct instruction.
Meaning
'There is this doubt about a man who has departed: some say he exists, others that he does not. I would learn this, taught by you. This is the third of the boons.'
Direct literal rendering preserving Sanskrit philosophical terminology.
Vyakhya
Science & Modern Application
शोध संदर्भResearch context · not scriptureComparative Research Noteशोध टिप्पणी
A modern parallel offered for reflection. It is not part of the scripture, and it has not been checked against the original sources it may allude to.
